visit Heartland Acres Agribition Center.

Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad along with Iowa Lieutenant Governor – Kim Reynolds visited Heartland Acres Agribiton Center Independence, Iowa on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. The Governor was wrapping up a series of town hall meeting in a variety of communities in North East Iowa. After their town hall meeting in Independence the Governor and Lieutenant Governor made time to tour the Heartland Acres campus and see first hand the many displays and artifacts which represent the past, present and future of agriculture.

“Heartland Acres has been fortunate to have gained the attention of many people in our great state and across the globe.” commented Leanne Harrison. Harrison works for Heartland Acres and also represents the Buchanan County Historical Society which has been instrumental in supplying many of the artifacts showcased in the museum.

The tour of agriculture based museum included the auto museum, machine shed, one room school house as well as the on-site Event Center which is capable of hosting events from small groups to 600 people.

Craig Johnson, Executive Director of the campus noted, “As a tour destination, Heartland Acres plays a significant roll in the approximate $6 billion annual dollars generated by tourism in Iowa as well as generating State tax revenues of approximately $300 million.”

Heartland Acres Agribiton Center is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, tax exempt organization with a volunteer Board of Directors. Heartland Acres remains a sustainable operation through gate admissions, tax deductable donations, grants, rental fees and gift shop sales.
